Laszlo
Gyimesi
was
born
in
Szentes
Hungary.
In
1966 he became pupil of
Peter Solymos inBudapest
and was awarded in 1971.
the „Grand Prix“
of
the
Franz Liszt Music Academy.
Afterwards he studied with
Géza Anda in Zürich, with
György Sebök at the
Indiana University in
Bloomington (USA), and
with Stephan Askenase in
Bonn. He was awarded
prizes at several
international piano
competitions: Leeds
(England), Liszt -Bartok
Comptetition (Budapest),
Jose Iturbi Competition
Valencia
(Spain).
Laszlo
Gyimesi has given concerts
in his native Hungary,
Czech Republic, Rumania,
Cuba, Canada, Spain,
Switzerland, Italy,
Holland Germany and in
Japan. He has been living
in
Switzerland
since
1973, and after several
years of professorship in
Germany (Karlsruhe,
Freiburg, Stuttgart) he
presently teaches piano
and chamber music at the
Music Academy in
Basel. He has recorded for
Ex
Libris
and „Musikszene
Switzerland“. He gives
regularly
masterclasses
in Hungary and in Spain.
In November 2003 he was
invited the first time to
teach at th University of
Maryland US.
